The genesis of each Ramonster garment lies in a creative collaboration between client and artist. In order to design clothing that truly reflects a recipient’s character and style, I work with my clients to tweak measurements, select fabrics, and articulate an overall aesthetic. Whether online or in person, I welcome this dialogue, and my clients’ thematic ideas, symbols, or motifs.

Step two is the ‘sketch’ – really a multi-draft, pen-to-paper process during which I translate these ideas into more fully realized imagery and, eventually, a rich and cohesive design. Client approval is crucial at this stage – before I move from sketch to stitch.

The embroidery phase deepens the design experience even further as I choose between countless thread and stitch characteristics – important subtleties in the transformation from two-dimensional sketch to three-dimensional work of art. As well, I employ a variety of embroidery tools and methods – from a vintage Singer chainstitch machine to old-school hand stitching – in order to fulfill the vision.

Finally, after completing the embroidery, I begin the assembly. For each unique, made-to-order garment, I cut fabric pieces to measure, prepare piping strips, and adhere interfacings. Trim work includes adding sequins, beads, rhinestones or pearl snaps.

The entire process is a days long intuitive, intellectual and individual event. It starts with a dialogue and ends with the satisfaction of a unique and beautifully constructed garment as the process unfolds each product.
